This is dog sledding near Tromsø the way it should be: small groups, expert guides, and dogs that genuinely love what they do. Frequently asked questions about dog sledding near Tromsø

Can beginners join the dog sledding safari near Tromsø?
Absolutely — no experience is needed whatsoever. Our dog sledding safari near Tromsø is designed for complete beginners, and the vast majority of our guests have never mushed a sled before. Before heading out, your English-speaking guide will walk you through everything: how to stand, how to brake, and how to communicate with the dogs. The huskies know the trail well and love their job — your job is simply to enjoy the ride. The activity is suitable for ages 4 and up and is a favourite among families, couples, and solo travellers alike.
What should I wear on a dog sledding tour in Northern Norway?
We provide everything you need to stay warm: a full winter suit, boots, mittens, and a hat are all included with your booking. Underneath, we recommend wearing your own thermal base layer and wool socks — the kind you'd pack for a cold winter day. Avoid jeans or cotton, as these hold moisture and get cold quickly. If you're joining us in December or January when temperatures can drop below -15°C, an extra mid-layer is always a good idea. Staying warm means enjoying every moment out on the trail.
What happens if there is bad weather on the day of my dog sledding tour?
We operate in all winter conditions — snow, wind, and cold are simply part of the Arctic experience, and our guides are trained to handle them safely. Dog sledding near Tromsø runs even in challenging weather, and we'll always make sure you're properly equipped before heading out. In the rare case that conditions are genuinely unsafe, we will contact you as early as possible to reschedule or offer a full refund. Our flexible cancellation policy means you can book with confidence.
Can I book a dog sledding experience near Tromsø as a solo traveller?
Yes, solo travellers are very welcome on our dog sledding safari. You'll join a small group, which means you'll share the experience with a handful of other guests — it's one of the best ways to meet fellow travellers in Northern Norway. Our groups are kept small deliberately, so the experience never feels like a crowded tour bus. Many of our most enthusiastic guests arrive alone and leave with new friends and a memory they talk about for years.
How far in advance should I book a dog sledding tour from Tromsø?
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially if you're travelling between December and February — this is peak season for dog sledding near Tromsø and our tours fill up quickly. Weekend departures in particular tend to sell out weeks in advance. If you're visiting during March or on a weekday, you may have more flexibility, but early booking always guarantees your preferred date.
Is dog sledding near Tromsø suitable for children and families?
Dog sledding is one of the best family activities in Northern Norway, and we've welcomed hundreds of families over our 15 years of guiding. Children from age 4 can join the safari, and younger children ride in the sled while an adult drives — which most kids agree is the best seat in the house. The huskies are friendly, sociable, and used to interacting with guests of all ages. After the sledding, the dog yard visit gives children a chance to meet, pet, and feed the dogs up close. It's the kind of day that stays with a family long after the trip is over.
